A new pilot programme underway in Auckland could see teachers switch from banning cell phones in classrooms, to making them compulsory.
While schools would have to watch cellphone se closely to prevent problems such as bullying, Professor Noeline Wright, who is assessing the project, feels it is appropriate to use 21st century technology in 21st century schooling.
The programme also has its detractors, including a mother who lost her son to cellphone/text bullying.
