Dr Melanie Massaro, a researcher at the University of Canterbury, spoke at this week’s New Zealand Association of Scientists conference about her concern for the future of emerging researchers in New Zealand.
Dr Massaro said the science system was producing too many PhD graduates for the positions available to them and that a lack of funding opportunities for postdocs meant an uncertain future awaited many emerging researchers.
