Are you a journalist, media-savvy scientist or experienced science press officer looking for a place at the heart of science communication in New Zealand?
We need someone to join our small, dedicated team as a media advisor, working with the science and media sectors to improve coverage across all types of media when science is in the headlines.You will ideally have experience in journalism and/or a science degree, be familiar with the New Zealand science system and have good contacts in New Zealand science and media. Excellent writing and interpersonal skills are a must, as is an understanding of online content platforms and social media.
You’ll work in a fast-paced environment where you are immersed in scientific research and responding to breaking news stories – be they natural disasters, biosecurity threats or medical research breakthroughs.
You’ll be responsible for producing clear, compelling content for our media alerts and website, and work closely with researchers and science organisations to identify topical issues for core SMC activities.
