A new diet has been attracting coverage in the press. The ‘Morning Banana Diet’ devised by Japanese pharmacist Sumiko Watanabe involves having a banana and a glass of room temperature water for breakfast, then eating anything you like for lunch and dinner. It has also been reported that a laissez-faire approach to exercise is recommended. Weight watchers are counseled to work out only if they want to and then to exert themselves in the least stressful way possible.
Jan Milne, Executive Director of the New Zealand Dietetic Association comments, “Bananas are a great food, but not a magic solution to weight loss. It’s important to consider your total intake of other foods throughout the day, having a healthy diet with moderate portion sizes. I’d also recommend getting involved in some regular activity.”
