Peter Griffin, London – It was a pleasant surprise to have on a sweltering London afternoon and with competition from fellow speakers like sci-fi writer Ian Banks and Guardian columnist Ben Goldacre, to have a large turn-out of people interested in hearing about how Science Media Centres work and how to go about setting one up.
After the UK, Australia and New Zealand, Canada is likely to be the next to form a Science Media Centre, with the effort there being led by veteran science reporter Peter Calamai. Representatives from South Africa and Denmark at WCSJ are also undertaking scoping projects to look at establishing SMCs in those countries.
In this SciDev.Net blog post, Naomi Anthony talks to Calamai and others involved in the SMC movement.
