During a superbug symposium being held today in Auckland, experts will be coming together to discuss to what extent superbugs are a threat in New Zealand, and what approaches should be taken towards them.
Superbugs, which are resistant to antibiotics, include the well-known hospital infection MRSA.

“Dr Rod Dunbar, the head of the Maurice Wilkins Centre, says superbugs that are resistant to antibiotics could pose real problems and the right approach needs to be taken.
“”We need judicious use of antibiotics. We need antibiotics used in the appropriate situations,” Dunbar said on TV ONE’s Breakfast show today.
“”New Zealand will always face a threat from these tremendously resistant organisms that are arising overseas and that’s why we need to keep on top of them,” he said.”
