Britton Broun writes in the Dominion Post about mephedrone – a substitute for ecstasy – the growing use of which is causing concern.
The drug, scheduled as Class C, is illegal to import into New Zealand, but can be purchased over the internet.

“Known as Miaow, it can induce hallucinations and make users feel excited.
But it can also cause nose bleeds, nausea, vomiting, blood circulation and heart problems, paranoia, fits, delusions and memory loss.

The concern was that people unknowingly taking the drug could be upping their dosage when it did not come on like ecstasy.”
